The validity of this report really comes down to your trust & faith in ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. On his ESPN radio show Sunday, Smith shared with his audience in unequivocal terms that the Orlando Magic have spoken to the New York Knicks about a blockbuster deal involving Dwight Howard. The Magic would be interested in acquiring Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler in the potential deal. Stephen A. is one of the most controversial members in the NBA media establishment. Some people love him, others deride him & there are a few that even despise him. Make your own judgement based on his record. You can find the IamaGM archive of Stephen A. Smith stories & rumors here.

According to from ESPN Radio:

Approximately 1:50 into the radio spot:

"As I told you a little bit earlier in the hour, I have some news to report about your New York Knicks.  The Orlando Magic, I will preface my statement by telling you that they have categorically denied this, but my sources tell me that they have inquired about Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire going to Orlando for Dwight Howard.  Let me confess to you that I'm torn.  From a basketball standpoint, it would seem you do that trade in a heartbeat.  You don't teach seven-feet and you don't teach the dominate and the skills that Dwight Howard has.  But I like Tyson Chandler.  I like the fact that he rebounds and defends."

That's sick lol.

-Fire D'antoni

- Get Dwight to NY, to start a new defensive minded Knicks squad -get Phil Jackson to coach - Develop Iman Shumpert into a better distributor to feed Melo Dwight and himself.

Some other advantages of this trade,

- Amare is from Central Florida so he'd be playing at home - Chandler would blossom on a team that already has a defensive game plan - Amares numbers would go back up because instead of having those stale mate offensive players, all of Orlando can shoot meaning, Amare will face less double teams because Hedo, Nelson, J-Rich, Reddick etc are marksman shooters

Win Win

The team needs time to mesh so firing d antoni wont be doing anything but hurting the knicks more they need to trust the system.

WHY DO PEOPLE GET THEIR HOPES UP - Chandler can't be traded till March 1st !!! and Magic would have to include Hedo or half of their squad to make the money aspect... And KNICKS wont do a trade for Howard and Hedo... C'MON... OFC if Magic put in Redick Anderson and Nelson and knicks fill in some $ its a go for the KNICKS, but why would Knicks take Hedo if they got Melo?

SERIUOSLY CANT BELEIVE STEVEN A SMITH came up with something like this...

none of these are the answers. the team is good, or can be good. its not even stupid dantonis fault (though i love to blame him).
melo and amare gotta learn to play together. nothing will change that. the roster also has 0 depth and thats a huge problem. what you need is a wilson chandler coming off the bench with shump and douglass and a raymond felton running point ahead of baron davis. that changes the whole game up - melo has to want to be a great wing player, and needs to move that ball. it doesnt work if everyone is playing one system and hes playing another

knicks getting melo was a bad move now they have a drama queen who does not want to share the ball!!!! so now amare is not being used very well at all prob all melo add him to the trade then pull the trigger.. superman and amare together that is
a 1 2 punch to build around!!!!

M Matthew Whatcha think about this??? I say pull the trigger. LiL Hey Hey I'm sure says the same. Great for both teams!!!

stephen A. Smith is a joke loud mouth fake ass professional. why do any of you even let him do this to you. i'm a big magic fan and i would hate to see this trade happen!!!!! amare is putting up 18 and 8 or 9 ( not impressive for his contract) so he will quickly keep showing us and un worth compared to his contract. and it will get worse. if the magic get burned because of that, then here we go again. orlando getting a impact player who has NO IMPACT. and chandler im not sold on either.

Amar'e and Howard as a duo won't work, the best bet is to make the trade.. Dwight covers more defensive ground than both Tyson & Amar'e can as well as grab more rebounds, idk how the framework of the trade, but the Knicks will be in a better position to attract a play making point guard in the off season like a Steve Nash...

Anonymous

Some of you really don't know what you're talking about, Amar'e not an impact player lmao, he was ahead of Dwight Howard in the MVP voting last year before the trade, you magic fans need to sit down & realize that this might be another Shaq situation

Trade deadline is March 20th, Chandler's contract can be traded March 1st, You know Orlando would want to throw Turkeyglue and more than likely...gulp...Duhon's contract to us. And I bet they want either cash or maybe Fields thrown in also since we don't really have any good draft picks over rthe next few years.

melo leads his team in assits you moron how how is he not sharing the ball.

even if they trade for duhon, we should surround the garden so he cant get in. he just stunk up the place. we cant let that shit happen again. its like drafting balkman, playing him 2 games, have him do good, then bench him and then cut him, and then get him back so he can play another 2 games, do good and then bench him....
that would be stupid. ny aint the kinda team to do that

I think you pull that trigger even tho i dont want to AT ALL bottom line Melo and Amare is just not working and i believe at the end of the day that blame should be put on d'antoni for not sitting them two down and getting something to work the same way phil jackson did with Shaq and Kobe and the same way the Miami heats coach did with that three over there, D'antoni is just letting his team do whatever it is they want to do and with a good point guard that system may work but on this team your seeing the results

what is stephen a smith's record on "my sources are telling me" type stuff? by the way, even if this move by the magic were true, they may just be trying to force up the market for a depreciating asset. "hey, the knicks may give us stat and chandler, what you got?" .. i dont doubt that its likely theyre doing exactly that. and probably a good move to leak it to the NBAs loudest commentator

the knicks suck right now bc they do not have a pt guard. you look at everything each individual is doing - melo, stat, chandler -- and it cant even really be considered apples-to-apples with their production if there were someone to distribute the ball. look at rubio in minnesota -- even anthony randolph, 90 pounds of nothing, is getting good looks. knicks front line gets nothing from our guards now..

NO WAY... amare have no knees Orlando is better letting go DH12 in free agent than take the horrible Amare contract. NYN make a hugh mistake singing Amare and trade the team to Denver. Orlando should conserve his salary cap clean instead of opting for a legitime bad player of Amare- Be realistic no body want Amare knees and contract. Is a shoot in the food for any team

I belive they should pull the trigger on the trade but also change coaches dantoni is not a defensive minded coach and you bring in the best denfender in the game. I say get rid of dantoni bring back jeff van gundy who would know how to choice a veteran big man because he coach knick great Ewing and if we get thoses spots filled add deron williams in the off season and we should be solid.

Knicks should trade Chandler, Melo and Shumpert to Orlando for Dwight and Turkoglu.
Knicks sign Gilbert Arenas.
The Orlando trades Nelson, Redick and Anderson to Lakers for Pau Gasol and a pick.
KNICKS
C Dwight Howard
PF Amare Stoudemire
SF Hedo Turkoglu
SG Landry Fields
PG Gilbert Arenas

MAGIC
C Tyson Chandler
PF Pau Gasol
SF Carmelo Anthony
SG Jason Richardson
PG Iman Shumpert

LAKERS
C Andrew Bynum
PF Ryan Anderson
SF Kobe Bryant
SG JJ Redick
PG Jameer Nelson

Magic get good value in exchange for Dwight, while shuffling their guards/bench.
Lakers get the shooters they desperately need and go back to one low post scorer instead of two and address the point guard situation.
Knicks get the opportunity to get Dwight. If you get a chance to aquire the best center in the game you pull the trigger. And Arenas has said he would want to go wherever Dwight goes and he could fit D'Antonis system nicely.

He never said Kobe will demand a trade. He said if something doesn't get done if the current roster isn't working, Kobe will get upset with management and he was basically touching on the fact that you do not want a disgruntled Kobe to deal with because the Lakers have already had to deal with a disgruntled Kobe in the passed who asked for a trade.

Dwights not going to LA.... that trade would help both teams. Carmelo has shown that he cant proved wins being the best player on a team. Bring a player like Dwight and he will look ten times better.... and on the other side put Amare and Tyson on the magic and they still keep their defensive stand with tyson in the middle and Amare's numbers will go back up.... And who cares if they knicks also have to take on Hedu's contract gaining a player like Dwight is will worth it.

When ur backcourt is considered to be made up of shumpert fields n Douglas and bill walker, you can't blame melo stat or d antoni even though stat is horrible and d antoni has never teached d. Orlando needs to fill that new stadium . I think stat Nd tyson will do that for them and they ll b just as competitive if not more so . While the knicks get a real big man and hedo can still be somewhat productive . Throw in a jj or Richardson either one is better than fields

It's win for all sides becuZ Orlando doesn't want bynum bad knees or lopez who's out and he's not as good as either tyson or stat . So welcome d12 ASAP. I was wondering y we amnested billups for tyson it just didn't make sense but its all becoming clear

i have hated the trade that lost us some good players for carmello who seems to only care about jacking up shots and never seems to have as many points as the shots he takes...

Danilo Gallinari outplayed Anthony in the first meeting since they were swapped in a blockbuster trade, scoring a career-high 37 points as the Nuggets outlasted the New York Knicks 119-114 in double-overtime on Saturday night.

Oh and Felton who was at 17.1 ppg and 9.0 apg to go with his 2 steals per game was a big loss as was Wilson Chandler

melo ain gion anywhere, they gave up to much to let him go now, I like Amare but dwight is younger an no barkin injuries, if this really happens D Will will not sign a extension with anybody else unless it's the lakers so he stays in jersey unless he turns up the heat on NJ to trade him to NY an that would be for next to nothing players like Fields,Shrumpt & BDavis cause the would need a PG in return which would be a real comedy trade to witness..lol
