Vesely is correct in that the stars should have been more involved in the negotiations, but you can't expect them to look out for the little guy. The stars want their money and most won't be concerned with how a deal will affect the lower end players in the league. Once the union is reformed, in addition to player reps for each team they should break down contracts into ranges. Then there would be a rep for players with bottom third contracts, middle third, and upper third so everyone has their interestes looked after.

According to truthaboutit.net:

It is worth losing the whole season?
I still believe they get a deal done somehow. In America everyone says that the players should take the deal, one hand they are right, everyone would be glad with the start of the NBA. But it’s not about this season. What the players make at the start of this disadvantageous CBA, they will lose that in the next 10 years. It’s about the future.

Does your side make mistakes too?
The biggest NBA stars came to the negotiations now at the end of it. I think that was probably a mistake. They should have taken a stand for every player at the beginning of negotiations.
