Grimy? Bulls refusing to allow Adrian Griffin to interview for lead assistant jobs

Bulls assistant Adrian Griffin has been quietly moving up the league coaching circles lately. As is custom, most coaches become the lead assistant on NBA staffs before they are able to get the top job. The Bulls are not cooperating with the common ritual, and are refusing to allow Griffin to interview for top assistant positions around the league. Griffin in fact interviewed for the head coaching job for the Portland Trail Blazers, but a lead assistant job would help build up his resume.

CSNNW.com has learned that the Orlando Magic and new head coach Jacque Vaughn asked for permission to interview Griffin for their lead assistant position to which the Bulls denied the request. Apparently, the Bulls are only allowing him to interview for head coaching positions. Most of the time, a lead assistant role is the final step in becoming a legitimate head coaching candidate.
